When you’re in the market for a durable, capable, and tough SUV for the whole family, you’re likely to come across the Subaru Outback. We are proud to carry this all-weather, all-terrain vehicle here at Herb Gordon Subaru, but we know that smart shoppers will also want to compare it to similar vehicles like the Toyota RAV4.

Here is a brief comparison between the two crossovers.

Powertrain and Performance

The 2021 Subaru Outback has two available engines. The base engine is a direct-injection SUBARU BOXER, which delivers 182 horsepower and impressive gas mileage around town, thanks to Auto Start-Stop technology.

If you want to up the ante, you can upgrade to the available 260-horsepower direct-injection turbocharged SUBARU BOXER engine that is also good for 277 lb-ft of torque and 3,500 lb of towing capacity.

Looking at the Toyota crossover, it also has two available engines. However, the top-end engine doesn’t reach the capability of the turbocharged engine on the Subaru, topping out at 230 horsepower.

Another feature that sets the Subaru Outback apart is the Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive system, which delivers go-anywhere, all-terrain capability.

Technology and Safety

The new Subaru crossover places a large emphasis on cutting-edge technology. It comes standard with the STARLINK Multimedia system with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. The system is easy to control via the high-resolution 11.6-inch touchscreen that’s available. STARLINK also allows you to connect to your favorite apps and content, such as news, navigation, music, podcasts, and more.

The 2021 Toyota RAV4 also has some infotainment features, but it comes with a smaller eight-inch touchscreen.
