As the part of your Subaru car that keeps you connected to the road, tires are critically important for both performance and safety. Like most aspects of Subaru service and parts, Subaru tires are a complex subject, leading many drivers to have questions about them.
Here at our Subaru tire center, our mechanics would like to answer some of the most common tire-related questions.
When Should I Replace My Tires?
Once your tires have become worn out, you increase the risk of losing control of your vehicle. Different tires have different lifespans, so there is no hard and fast answer to how often tires should be replaced. A general rule of thumb is every five to six years. Rest assured that when you visit our Subaru service center for routine tire care, our mechanics will keep an eye on the condition of your tires.
What Are the Parts of a Tire?
Having a basic understanding of the different parts of a tire can be helpful when buying or maintaining tires. Here are the main tire parts:
- Sidewall
- Rim protector
- Shoulder
- Tread
- Inner liner
- Bead wire
What are the Different Types of Tires?
Tires come in many shapes and forms. Here are some of the different types of tires:
- All-season
- Summer
- Performance
- Winter
Should I Purchase Winter Tires?
Here in the Silver Spring, MD area, winter involves snow, ice, and slippery roads. Winter tires have a rubber compound that allows them to stay pliable and deliver ample traction in inclement conditions. For steadier handling in the winter months, we recommend switching to winter tires.
What Is the Tire Pressure Monitoring Light?
The dashboard of your Subaru car contains a Tire Pressure Monitoring Light that will illuminate when the system detects that your tire pressure is low. Because driving with low tire pressure can cause safety and performance issues, either inflate the tires yourself or bring your car to Herb Gordon Subaru for service.
If you have any more questions about Subaru tires, our mechanics are happy to answer them.
